Novel Speakers

Web Design, Kickstarter, and Promo Video

A product that requires crowdfunding absolutely needs an compelling online presence and story. The Kickstarter platform has very limited design and formatting functionality. Because of this, banner graphics and animated gifs were used to add movement and visual interest.

A 45-second product sizzle video was created to generate excitement. A song by a local music group with a driving beat and compelling lyrics was used to support the company’s local community and respect budgetary restraints.

Brand Identity

The driving concept behind Novel Speakers is that your speaker should be as unique as you. The product aesthetic is classically inspired. For the branding, those two qualities had to be honored.

The Novel logo and mark utilize a hand drawn logotype combined with Herb Lubalin’s Avant Garde tying Novel Speakers securely to 70’s culture. The printed elements of the speakers also employ Avant Garde. Avenir is used a secondary typeface on smaller elements for enhanced readability.

VyStar Employee Benefit Book

2020 Benefit Summary

The biggest hurdle with an employee handbook is squeezing all of the important
information that needs to be communicated to the employees into a 28 page document. The dense material also needs to be laid out in a way that is both visually interesting and easy to follow. For this handbook, a character named Alex was introduced to tie different benefits together.

Disco Donnie Presents

Sunset Music Festival

This music festival took place in Tampa. The client had requested an animal mascot for the festival that would capture the energy they were hoping to create. This illustration actually came from the initial sketch that was quickly doodled while on the exploratory call. The ultimate success in the merch booth led to a lengthy, prosperous relationship.

Sun City Music Festival

Sun City Music Festival was held in El Paso, Texas on Labor Day. DDP again requested an animal mascot for the festival that would embody the mood and energy they were hoping to shape. Like those young people at SCMF, the electric coyote howls back at the Texas night.

Something Wicked

Something Wicked Music Festival was a little different. This festival took place on Halloween weekend and leaned into the macabre. DDP asked for something Halloween inspired but not cliche. The idea here is something that floats somewhere between a marble bust and a living creature.

Sunset Music Festival

Sunset Music Festival came back around, and DDP asked for another avian mascot. They wanted to honor Tampa’s interesting history of piracy. This swashbuckling parrot was a nice throwback to the previous year’s nautically tattooed seagull for those that attended both festivals. With his SMF flag and empty rum bottle, he was right at home with the high energy festival patrons

North Florida Gig Posters

Kansas With Foreigner

Kansas has been touring the country since 1973. They have produced eight gold albums and three multi-platinum albums. They are legends of American Rock, and creating a gig poster for one of their concerts was a heavy undertaking. One of their greatest hits is “Carry On Wayward Son.” The song is played in the season finale episode of The CW’s Supernatural. I used this as the jumping off point for the poster. To promote the band’s visit to the St. Augustine Ampitheatre, the poster depicts the boys as they travel across a Florida landscape in their ‘67 Impala.

Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers are a folk rock band from North Carolina. The True Sadness album was a slight departure from their usual sound and a statement. This poster was an attempt to capture the melancholic beauty of the record.

The White Tailed deer is a staple of Florida and a totem of innocence. In this poster, the vines and the world around it are taking over. Innocence is being lost to the unrelenting torments of life.

Audio Hive

Audio Hive headlined this event at Shanghai Nobby’s in St Augustine. The event was a mash-up of different artists with different sounds. It was an experiment as much as it was a concert. The fun and flirty style of this piece is an homage to the Spanish heritage of St Augustine.

The skull represents the rebirth into the next stage of life. The flowers reinforce the importance of overcoming fear of death and celebrating life.

Catty Shack Ranch

Extinction is Forever

This poster was created for Catty Shack Ranch to help support their wildlife sanctuary and bring attention to their non-profit organization. The big cats are incredible, powerful creatures, and their extinction would be an awful loss for us and our planet.

Messy for Matthew

Bar-B-Q Fundraiser Collateral

In 2018 a fourteen year-old boy named Matthew Mazza was battling brain cancer. His journey began when he was just twelve years old. His mother had exhausted all of her savings due to the added stress of medical bills, lost time at work, and becoming the sole provider of the family after Matthew’s father passed away. This event was held to raise funds for the family and make Matt’s remaining days a little bit better.

Festival Branding

Music Festivals are reshaping the way that the music industry and many bands operate. This festival was a tribute to one of an all-time favorite movie, Smokey and the Bandit. It was a nine day, three city marathon event rivaling the likes of Bonnaroo and Coachella. Branding and promotional merch all speak to the core theme of rebellion and freedom.
